Sharing

Our Prayer Card came out with the last edition of Bridge.  As we use it in our daily prayers it reminds us of what happens when we worship together in Stockbridge Church.   We gather as God’s people to learn from Jesus.  Guided by our Minister, we help one another find out what God wants us to do with our lives.  We share together as a congregation, but with the church as our base God wants us to carry our sharing out beyond the congregation.  God wants us to be part of God’s Master Plan for our planet.

Our sharing community needs its base – building, minister, Church of Scotland – but we all need to live every day by our beliefs.  We need to work out what it is for each of us to live as ‘sharers’ in the real world if God’s will is to be done on earth.

During three weeks from the end of February we invite anyone interested to join a group of us as we try to help each other work out what this might mean.

We are going to look together at the issues raised in a Penguin book called “The Spirit Level” by Wilkinson and Pickett.  It is available from Amazon at around £6.50, but for those with access to the internet, all its main points can be looked at online at www.equalitytrust.org.uk. We commend the book and the website, but you don’t need to go there to take part.  We have downloaded the key information and in the group this is what we will look at, and talk about, together.

It is good to share, but it is hard to share.  Life is complicated with so many different agendas, and the need to survive these days can squeeze out sharing – for individuals, for communities and for nations.  Yet compelling new evidence shows that large inequalities within societies damage the social fabric and quality of life for everyone.  Come and join us as together we look at the evidence.
