Data Protection Co-ordinator & Joint HR Convener
Carolyn Thurston-Smith
The Data Protection Co-ordinator is responsible for ensuring that the congregation’s handling of personal data complies with data-protection legislation and best practice.
This includes maintaining secure records, overseeing any data-sharing or consent processes (e.g. membership lists, mailing lists, pastoral care records), and acting as the point of contact for data-protection issues.
The Co-ordinator reports to the Kirk Session and works closely with other office-bearers to ensure data principles are upheld across all church activities.
Joint HR Convener
Be Morris
The HR Convener supports the Session in overseeing any staff or volunteer roles within the congregation, ensuring fair and appropriate processes for recruitment, role allocation, review and support.
The Convener helps to ensure that the church’s human-resource practices are consistent with relevant legislation and good practice (e.g. recruitment, safeguarding checks, training, role descriptions, volunteer support).
In a joint arrangement, the Convener works with their counterpart to share responsibility, and liaises with the Kirk Session to ensure staffing needs are met and personnel matters handled responsibly.

The Presbytery Elder represents the congregation at the regional level (the Presbytery).
As a member of the Kirk Session, the Presbytery Elder acts as a link between the local congregation and the wider church structure, attending Presbytery meetings as the congregation’s representative.
They ensure that decisions and guidance from the Presbytery (and, where relevant, the national Church) are brought back to the congregation, and conversely that the voice and concerns of the congregation are conveyed.
