Music at Stockbridge Church

Our Choir

The choir welcomes singers of every level to support worship here in the church.

They lead the singing of the hymns, offer choral items of music during worship, as well as leading the special services.

They have also regularly appeared in concerts with the Stockbridge and New Town Community Orchestra.

Our Organ

Built in the 1880s by London organ builder August Gern for Monteviot House, this small Victorian organ was moved to Stockbridge Parish Church in 1994. It is housed in a polished oak case with original Victorian fittings and has 11 stops across Great, Swell and Pedal.

In 2012 it was awarded a Grade 1 Historic Organ Certificate for its exceptional historic importance and is one of very few Gern organs still in active use in Scotland.

Our organist, Ben Shanks, plays most Sundays - and you can reach him for questions via email.

Our Piano

We boast a gorgeous Steinway & Sons grand piano - a brand renowned worldwide for its unmatched craftsmanship, expressive tone, and exceptional resonance. Hand-crafted in the tradition of excellence that has defined Steinway for over 170 years, this instrument enriches our worship with warmth, depth, and clarity—supporting congregational singing, choirs, and special musical offerings.

It is available for hire for rehearsals, public events, and more.

Our Harmonium

Recently maintained, our 150+ year old harmonium is a unique instrument that is also available for hire.
